Low Impact Yoga Festival

Yoga Village, a 2 day event in Guernsey, chooses to make a commitment to a sustainable future by honouring the principles of respect and harmony with nature.

A village of health and happiness is in harmony with the environment.

The Yoga Village Festival which runs 13-14 September 2008 in Guernsey, Channel Islands is linked up with environmental groups both in the charity and the government sector to reduce and soften the impact of the festival on the environment. YogaVillage encourages all participants to support their politicians in affirmative action in the creation of environmental laws including the year-on-year cuts in carbon dioxide.

As well as staging a world class event with a diverse and exciting line-up, the YogaVillage is committed to reducing its own carbon footprint over the weekend by encouraging people to minimise their carbon dioxide emissions by their:

Choice of Transportation

Promoting greener transport: walk, bikeCreating a lift-sharing forum on the festival websiteProviding bike parking inside the festival siteChoosing an event location with local transport

Choice of Use

Reducing wastePromoting use of real nappies at the festivalBringing reuseable water bottles for fill-upsEncouraging caterers to use local produce and recycled materials (cutlery, packaging etc)Providing recycling facilities on site

Choice of Energy:

Events held in the daylight weather permitting. Alternatively in large white marquees that light easily penetratesDaylight rooms for massage therapiesCareful and conscious use of necessary lighting

In addition to raising the public's environmental awareness, conscious raising information will be available on bulletin boards on both Guernsey and International initiatives.

GUERNSEY SOCIETY OF THE MEN OF THE TREES

Works tirelessly to inform people about the vital part played by trees in maintaining life on earth. The Society exists to encourage the protection and planting of trees throughout the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Also it fosters an awareness and appreciation of trees for their amenity, ecological and other values. Lasted project funded by donations raised at viewing of the Al Gore Film - An Inconvenient Truth 2007 resulted in a team of 28 volunteers planting 275 trees and hedging. Originally established in 1935.
